Myanmar Kickboxing or Myanmar Lethwei is a form of kickboxing which originated in Myanmar. Lethwei is in many ways similar to its siblings from neighboring South-East Asian countries such as Tomoi from Malaysia, Pradal Serey from Cambodia, Muay Lao from Laos and Muay Thai from Thailand.
Myanmar Lethwei was based on a combination of boxing arts from India and China. Myanmar Lethwei has been preserved over the centuries land still remains a favourite traditional game of the people. Aside from punches, kicks, elbows and knee attacks, Burmese boxers also make use of head-butts, raking knuckle strikes and take downs. This may be due to the fact that lethwei was more strongly influenced by musti-yuddha than the other styles were.
