HTC CEO and President Peter Chou is the one who difficult to get his information and biography. Some friend shared me on facebook that Peter Chou is from Myanmar. What! is it? really? That captured my interest on him more and start learning about him. All of this make me to decide to write a biography with my insufficient resources.

Peter Chou’s Early Life

Fred Liu, HTC President of Engineering & Operations, who has been working with Chou for more than 2 decades, mentioned that, ‘Chou was originally from Yunnan, China, and lived in Burma.’ Myanmar Life believes that Chou’s ancestors were from Yunnan, China but Chou was born in 1953, in Mandalay, lived till 1981, before he went to Taiwan.

Today, May 15, 2012, Ye Myat Thu posted on his facebook that HTC CEO Peter Chou held seminar in Mandalay. According to Ye Myat Thu’s reports, Peter Chou was visiting relatives and old friends, not business trips. Luckily for Mandalay youth, Chou had great time to encourage the young, ‘young people need to be innovative and at the same time be systematic in implementing their plans.’

In the seminar Chou talked about his early life, ‘Chou was born in  Mandalay day labor family. Chou was naughty boy when he was young. When he turned to grade 7th he felt that the curriculum of the school was meaningless  to him even though he was good at study. So he dropped from school and started to be in the field of jewelry business. But he felt that to be in business field he was still young so decided to continue to study was better idea.

Since Chou was young he was very interested in Electronic devices and gadgets. Chou was gifted person about electronic devices since he was young. Forbes mentioned that,

Chou mostly keeps quiet about himself but says, “I am an engineer by nature.” His gadget fascination began in high school, and he has repaired the home appliances of many a relative. “They were like magic to me. I was crazy about electronic gadgets like radio, vacuum tubes and amplifiers, and could go on an entire week without sleep toying with these gadgets,” he says.

In his high school life repairing electronic gadgets was his hobby and fun, later he opened electronic gadgets repair shop in 83th Mandalay road.

After he passed his high school, mathematics exam, he studied at local college. In his 2nd year, 1981, Chou went to Taiwan.

Education

Peter Chou graduated with an Electronic Engineering degree from National Taiwan Ocean University in 1985 and entered National Chengchi University’s Executive MBA Program in 2003. In 2006, Mr. Chou completed Harvard Business School’s prestigious Advanced Management Program.

Career

After graduating from National Chengchi University Peter Chou worked as Computer System Architect design in Mini Computer provider in Digital. In 1997, Chou and pals Cher Wang, HT Cho founded HTC, High Tech Computer Corporation. Peter Chou is HTC’s Chief Executive Officer and has been with the company since its establishment in 1997. Peter strongly believes in the values of entrepreneurship and innovation and, under his leadership, he has led the charge to establish HTC as a global smartphone brand.

In 2008, the HTC of Peter Chou is the first to use the Google’s system Android on mobile phone. Chou’s expertise is the driving force behind some of HTC’s most cutting-edge converged devices.

Today, HTC is considered next to Apple and Sumsung in mobile world. On February 17, 2010, Fast Company ranked HTC as the 31st most innovative company in the world. In 2012, HTC becomes the 98th top brand in the Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2011 report.
